Dr. Purdy is Senior Director in anti-infectives at Pfizer. He completed an M.D. at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in the Department of Microbiology. His Ph.D. focused on parasitology (Entamoeba histolytica) and the regulation of virulence factors. Dr. Purdy completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa as well as a fellowship in Infectious Disease continuing his research in global health and parasitic diseases. He then joined the faculty at the Pritzker School of Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine-Section of Infectious Disease at the University of Chicago and held a seat on the Committee on Microbiology. In this position, he continued the study of parasitic illnesses (leishmaniasis), trained graduate students, post-docs, residents and fellows. He also established the Pritzker Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators, Geographic Medicine Scholars Program that educated and provided clinical travel opportunities for faculty, medical students and residents to the developing world.
Dr. Purdy joined Wyeth in 2008 in the Clinical Research and Development department conducting clinical studies in Infectious Diseases. Since joining Wyeth, he has served as the global medical lead for the vaccine Prevenar-13 (adult) and currently is the Global Medical Lead for the antibiotics Zyvox (linezolid) and Zmax (Azithromycin).
