Dr. Schindler is a neurologist with subspecialty training in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology. She trained in Internal Medicine and Neurology and completed a fellowship in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology. She was Director of Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry, Chief of Neurorehabilitation, and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. There, she founded and directed The Neurobehavior and Memory Disorders Program, a comprehensive multidisciplinary program serving patients and their families with neurobehavioral and memory disorders related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, head injury, stroke, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. She was an attending neurologist at University Hospital at Stony Brook, the Northport VA Medical, a nursing home and a head injury unit. She established a post-graduate fellowship training program in neurobehavioral and cognitive disorders, and also taught and supervised residents and medical students, graduate and undergraduate students.
Both before and since joining Pfizer in 2000, she has focused on cognitive and behavioral disorders in Neurological and Psychiatric conditions, with primary focus on Alzheimer’s disease. She has taught courses on Alzheimer’s disease at the American Academy of Neurology. She was a principal investigator on numerous clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease in both industry and the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS).
She is currently Pfizer’s Clinical Disease Area Expert in Alzheimer’s disease. She has participated in various US and global initiatives and consensus groups to advance research and the care of Alzheimer’s patients, including the European Alzheimer’s Disease Consortium, the Industry Scientific Advisory Board for the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), and has represented the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) at the EMEA on recommendations on guidelines on treatment in dementia. Currently, she is the Co-Chair of the Alzheimer’s Association Research Roundtable and Chair of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation.
